Scrambles

Scrambling Scrambling

Mountain scrambling is a hugely challenging and enjoyable activity if you fancy a change from mountain walking and getting a bit more hands-on-rock! It's accessible to all levels of ambition, and suitable for anyone who is reasonably fit with a love of the outdoors, and a reasonable head for heights.  Each route is graded between 1 and 3 and we match route choice to your level of ability and aspirations.

Day Scrambles

All our instructors are fully qualified and for our grade 2/3 scrambling days your instructor will always be an MIA holder. Our instructors will provide all technical equipment and group emergency kit.

All day scrambles are priced as follows:

Group size 1 2 3-4
Cost per person £170 £80 £55

Suggested day scrambles

These are some of the classics but there are plenty more.

Grade 1 Routes

Routes for the adventurous without the need for rock-climbing skills

North Ridge of Tryfan
Bristly Ridge – The Glyders
Traverse of Crib Goch - Snowdon

Grade 2 Routes

Suitable for those with an experience of scrambling or mountaineering

Clogwyn y Person Arete - Snowdon
East ridge of Y Garn – The Glyders
Milestone Gully Approach – The Glyders

Grade 3 Routes

These routes are scrambles which have the additional complications of one or more "pitches" of rock-climbing, making them suited to those who have a basic level of rope work and a wide experience of scrambling.

Dolmen Ridge – The Glyders
Cneifon Arete – The Glyders
The Chasm Face – The Glyders

Classic Mountain Scrambling Weekend  (2 Days)

This weekend entails 2 full days with a full qualified instructor taking in classic scrambles in Snowdonia and covering skills and techniques required to improve your scrambling.

To ensure that you get the highest level of care and instruction, this weekend is run on a ratio of 1:2.  The routes for the weekend are chosen based upon individuals abilities and aspirations.

Day 1 – We meet at 8:30am to discuss weather and possible venues.  Scrambles are graded between 1 and 3, and we decide on a route which is suitable to your level of ability.  We then spend the day tackling the scramble and learning new skills and rope techniques.

Day 2 – We usually aim to be more ambitious on day 2, and using skills and techniques we learnt on the previous day, we will tackle a more challenging scramble or more of the same if you so desire.

Your instructor will provide all necessary safety equipment including harness, helmet and rope.  You will need to wear suitable clothing including a good pair of walking boots.  We will send you a kit list of all you will need.

These courses are suitable for people with a good level of fitness and a reasonable head for heights.

Cost
The cost of the Classic Mountain Scrambling Weekend is £160 per person based on a ratio of 1:2.

For private instruction, prices are charged at £150 per day.
