Lonely Mountains of Snowdonia

Snowdonia The less frequented and more isolated peak

The less frequented and more isolated peaks.

For those who are more interested in getting away from the busier peaks and taking time to look and listen to the soft voice of the mountains. We will have time to look at the abundant flora and explore the paths less trod.

Choose from:

  • Cnicht (the Knights' peak). Known as the "Matterhorn of Wales" for it's appearance, Cnicht or the "knight" looks impressive from the valley and involves a scramble to reach the summit.
  • The Nantle Ridge. One of the finest ridge walks in Snowdonia with spectacular views of the surrounding mountains and Ireland. This route takes you to the northern end of the Snowdonia National Park. The walk is varied and includes some steep downhill sections.
  • The Moelwyns. A moderate day out walking in the area of Snowdonia known as the secret mountains for they are not explored as often as others. The walk takes in the peak of Moel Hebog (783m) which towerss above the picturesque village of Beddgelert, Moel Yr Ogof (655m) and Moel Lefn (638m). The route is of fairly moderate grade although has some steep decsents providing excellent views.
  • Moel Siabod. A lovely walk on the highest peak in the Moelwynnion mountain range with some basic scrambling along the route. This is a distinctive freestanding peak offering excellent views across Snowdonia.
  • Mynydd Mawr (the big mountain). Locally known as the “elephant hill” this mountain offers stunning views across the Nantlle Ridge and across the western flanks of the Snowdonia Massif.Starting from Rhyd Ddu, the route is of moderate grading, climbing steeply in places to a rounded summit. A very pleasing climb.

Choosing two of the above routes, this weekend is 2 full days of walking in the quieter parts of Snowdonia which are more isolated away from the busy peaks, often missed by walkers. This weekend can be tailored to your own ability and aspirations for the walks with options of routes suitable for the beginner to the more experienced hill walker. Accommodation can be arranged to suit all budgets from bunkhouse to hotel.
